The concept of strategy has been borrowed from the military and adapted for use in business. In business, as in the military, strategy bridges the gap between policy and tactics.  Together, strategy and tactics bridge the gap between ends and means.

A strategy is the basic idea of how the struggle of a specific campaign shall develop, and how its separate components shall be fitted together to contribute most advantageously to achieve its objectives. Strategy operates within the scope of the grand strategy. Tactics and specific methods of action are used in smaller scale operations to implement the strategy for a specific campaign.

A company's overall plan of development. Corporate strategy can be more formally defined as a comprehensive plan or action orientation that identifies the critical direction and guides the allocation of resources of an entire organization. The strategy is typically a statement about what should be done to ensure prosperity based on the company's vision, values and mission. Besides a corporate strategy, each business unit of a large corporation may have its own strategic plan.
